Conference report
The 3 rd National Pediatric Nephrology Conclave was organised by the Department of Pediatric
Nephrology, SAT Hospital, Govt. Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram on 12th & 13th November
2022 at Thiruvananthapuram. The conclave was conducted as part of our ISN Sister Renal Centre
(SRC) collaboration with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre, Ohio, USA. This National
Pediatric nephrology conclave was after a two-year break in effect of COVID-19. The event was
endorsed by International Society of Nephrology and Indian Society of Pediatric Nephrology. The
Organizing Committee included Dr. Susan Uthup (Organising Chairperson), was Dr. Radhika C
Radhakrishnan(Organising Secretary} and Dr.Christy Cathreen Thomas (Joint Secretary) .
The theme of the conclave was ‘Kidney Health for Everyone, Everywhere -To Bridge the
Knowledge Gap” .On 12 th November , CME on Acute care Nephrology and Dialysis workshop was
conducted at the child development center ,Medical College,Thiruvananthapuram .52 doctors
including junior residents in Pediatrics and Nephrology attended the CME and workshop. There was
a separate free CME and workshop for allied health professionals. There was an overwhelming
response with 102 attendees from the allied professional group. Separate workshop manual was
given for doctors and allied professionals.
On 13 th November, a conference was conducted at The Hotel Residency Towers, a Primer in
Paediatric Nephrology, organized for clinicians on carefully selected topics that addressed different
kidney diseases in children. 135 doctors attended the program. We also conducted an E-poster
competition held for residents in nephrology and residents in Paediatrics. Separate cash awards and
certificates were distributed for original research work done by Pediatric Residents, Nephrology
Residents. Also, cash awards were given to the best two in the case report series.
International speakers included Dr. Prasad Devarajan, Director,Pediatric Nephrology, Cincinnati
Childrens Hospital Ohio USA, and Dr. Azmeri Sultana,Pediatric Nephrologist,M R Khan Hospital
Dhaka Bangaladesh. Eminent National faculty included Dr. R.Kasi Visweswaran Professor of
Nephrology, Ananthapuri Institute and Research Center Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Arpana
Iyengar,St.Johns Medical College,Bangalore, Dr. Aditi Sinha AIIMS,New Delhi, Dr. Niveditha Kamath
St.Johns Medical College,Bangalore. Faculty from SAT Hospital included Dr. Susan Uthup, Dr. Sheeja
Sugunan, Dr. Radhika C Radhakrishnan and Dr. Christy Cathreen Thomas. Dr.Rehna C Rehman from
Calicut , Dr.Liji R ,Dr. Vineetha from Govt Medical College,Thiruvananthapuram were other faculty.
The conference was well attended and appreciated by all the delegates who included both
Paediatricians and Nephrologists.
